Anniversary Gift and Celebration

 For Mr & Mrs Swettenham

This special couple had been aware of my work for some years and they came to visit the gallery looking for a sculpture to make a particular celebration of their 40th wedding anniversary.

After choosing a pair of bronze House martins, we discussed options as to how these could be mounted. I was aware that Mrs Swettenham’s family had come from Wales so suggested a unique piece of Welsh slate.

They liked a classic  patination of bronze for the birds, which made a beautiful accent to the piece of slate they chose from the ones I sourced.

We wanted something really special to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary and JOEL’s sculpture of two House martins flying wing to wing was perfect. The specially commissioned bronze beautifully captures the birds in motion and the Welsh slate JOEL chose as a mount was the ideal complement. This was a very special piece for a very special occasion and we are delighted with it. N.S  

Joel heard about one of their favourite poems – The Master Speed by Robert Frost – and inspired by their life-story and the themes of the poem wrote a poem for them called  Wing to Wing to accompany the sculpture
