Magnificent Millie Border Terrier original and the clay stage of her statue by JOEL

The Magnificent Millie Statue

Commission of a Portrait Statue of a Border Terrier Dog

Birthday Gift Solution

The challenge and opportunity came for Sculptress JOEL to take on another portrait sculpture commission, with the request to make a statue of the Magnificent Millie sitting in her preferred nonchalant pose.

The original Magnificent Millie the Border Terrier

The project truly started with a visit to meet Millie on her home ground, where she could show off her character and habits . There at her home Joel could study her and make measurements and take many reference photographs. Conversations followed with her humans as to the details of the expression they were seeking for their statue of this once in a lifetime K9.

The project involved other site visits by JOEL for her to work on the clay with sittings with Millie. With much application of time and skill this sculptor achieved the details of the expression and character, and complexity of coat and pose.

After more finishing touches at her home studio ,at last the sculpture was ready to be seen by the clients for the last time before casting.

Patience is always needed as JOEL follows the project through the mould making, the wax stage and the casting at the foundry.

A characteristic of Millie is the particular pigmentation on her nose, a request by the owner to show this – and this JOEL achieved.
